Mark Viduka back in frame for Boro clash

NEWCASTLE United striker Mark Viduka is in line for a surprise comeback in next Saturday’s derby match with his former club Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
The 33-year-old striker has not pulled on a black-and-white shirt since early May because of a long-standing Achilles tendon problem.
But the Aussie international has been back in training for the past week, and Joe Kinnear insists he has a chance of being on the bus to Teesside.
And Middlesbrough fans will have every right to be wary, because Viduka opened his Newcastle account in the 2-2 draw at the Riverside last season.
Kinnear told me today: “If I had just been appointed yesterday and had been watching Mark in training for the first time, I’d have been thinking about playing him this afternoon against Chelsea.
“He’s got to give me the OK, but what I see with my eyes in training is absolutely superb.
“He’s now been in the first-team squad for eight days, and he’s more than held his own. I think he’s about a week away.”
Kinnear, however, will not take any chances with Viduka, who made just 21 starts, and came off the bench a further seven times, last season after joining United on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.
Meanwhile, Kinnear expects to have his Geordie boy Steven Taylor back next Saturday.
The England Under-21 skipper has missed the last two games with Fulham and Wigan after picking up a stomach injury when away on international duty. He had hoped to have returned in today’s match with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and in normal circumstances he would have.
But his comeback and training was interrupted this week when he was laid low by a bug and his comeback went on hold for a week.
