Odličan potez.
Za Beardo-a uvek mora biti mesta u Newcastle-u.
United confirmed on Saturday that reserve team coach Peter Beardsley will take on a new role of Football Development Manager, signing a five year contract.
Beardsley's remit is described by the club as "driving forward the recruitment of talented youngsters into the club's Academy and Development Squad, whilst retaining his involvement in the coaching of young players."
Current reserve team coach Willie Donachie assumes control of the second string (also with a new five year deal) and his side face Liverpool this coming Tuesday.
The club's confirmation of Beardsley's new role includes a reference to "recruitment activities locally, nationally and internationally." That implies not only a continuation of the process that has brought teenagers from across the globe to SJP, but also a commitment to home grown talent.
As a product of Wallsend Boys Club himself who left the region only to return "home" for a transfer fee, he'll be aware of that relations between United and local youth football organisations have often been flawed - something that the unloved Dennis Wise was quick to highlight when brought in to oversee recruitment by Mike Ashley in 2008.
This move adds another role to 50 year-old Peter's SJP CV, following on from two spells as a player, coaching roles and both junior and reserve level, media/PR work and a brief spell as caretaker boss after Chris Hughton's departure.
